It's time for our next Whisky Spotlight here at the Liquor Burn Blog. Today's incredible whisky is an American whiskey: Eagle Rare Single Barrel. This is a "wheated" Bourbon whiskey aged 10 years from legendary distiller Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, USA. Buffalo Trace Distillery is famous for producing the world's best and most sought-after bourbon Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve.
Buffalo Trace Distillery has 3 tiers for their whisky bottling by brand. Their standard bottling is called Buffalo Trace. The next level up is Eagle Rare. Their highest level of quality and aging is Van Winkle. Unfortunately Van Winkle is almost impossible to get without the right connections and being in the USA for purchase. Every bottle is sold out before the yearly release is done in the fall. Most people have to enter lotteries and hope for a chance to purchase a bottle. Bottles go on the black market for $1000 or more.
The good news is that Eagle Rare is an incredible bourbon whiskey at an incredible price! In fact, it's one of this author's favorite bourbons. Liquor Burn Gion carries the single barrel bottling of Eagle Rare, which is a rare treat indeed! Here are the tasting notes from Buffalo Trace Distillery:
Eagle Rare Bourbon Whiskey is masterfully crafted and carefully aged for no less than ten years. Every barrel is discriminately selected to offer consistent flavor but with a seemingly individual personality. Eagle Rare is a bourbon that lives up to its name with its lofty, distinctive taste experience.
The nose is complex, with aromas of toffee, hints of orange peel, herbs, honey, leather and oak. The taste is bold, dry and delicate with notes of candied almonds and very rich cocoa. The finish is dry and lingering.
